Checking the moongates...

Tired of shards that don't look like UO any more?

Neon armour that hurts your eyes. Hues no blacksmith ever forged. So much custom art you can't tell which game you're playing. Not here.

Classic look, living world

Britannia keeps its original art and believable hues: no custom art packs, no rainbow gear. But it never stands still. New quests, dungeons, events and lands arrive as the shard grows, all built from UO's own art.

Renaissance: the UOR era

The rules and feel of 2000: Trammel and Felucca, skill and reputation over loot. New content comes in the same spirit, never at the cost of what made the era great.

Shadows: Defiance Network AOS

Age of Shadows with the Defiance Network AOS scripts: events, dungeons, quests and rares. All built on UO's own art, so it still looks like Britannia.

Our fair-play promise

Too many shards have been ruined by staff who sell power: game masters spawning gear for real money, donation items that win fights, a pay-to-win shop behind every corner. That will never happen here.

  • No staff-made items for money. Our game masters never create, sell or trade gear, gold or advantages. Everything in the world is earned in the world.
  • Donations are cosmetic only, and never custom items. Anything offered to thank donors changes how you look, never how you play: no better stats, no stronger weapons, no shortcuts, and no special donor-only items.
  • Cosmetics stay classic. They use UO's own items, original art and believable hues. No rainbow gear, no custom art, nothing that looks out of place in Britannia.

If you've been looking for the game you used to play, this is the place for you.

Remember when...
  • you macroed Hiding in your house all night, and woke up at 100?
  • the bank in Britain was the busiest place in the world?
  • you lost everything to a PK, and came straight back for more?
  • your first house deed cost more than everything you owned?
  • "vendor buy bank guards" was a complete sentence?
  • a moongate took you somewhere you'd never been?

Come back. Or come for the first time.

How to play

One download. No hunting for five different files, no patchers, no guesswork.

  1. Download and run one installer

It sets everything up for you: the Moongate Legacy client, the Razor assistant, and, if you don't have it yet, the free official Ultima Online Classic game from EA, fetched straight from EA. Already have UO? It finds it by itself.

    Download for Windows

Windows may warn about an unrecognised app the first time. Choose "More info", then "Run anyway". No administrator rights needed.

  2. Log in and choose your age

Pick Moongate Legacy from the list, then Renaissance or Shadows. New here? Type the account name and password you'd like, and your account is made on the spot. One login for every shard.

Prefer your own setup? Get the client as a zip, or point any ClassicUO-style client at moongatelegacy.com, port 2593.

Events, always

Capture the flag, last man standing, gladiator fights, monster quests, town invasions, the crate race and Bomberman.

Real PvP

Factions, guild wars, red names and duels in Luna's Grand Arena. Felucca is as dangerous as you remember.

One account, both ages

One login takes you to Renaissance and Shadows. Play the era you're in the mood for.

Macro the old way

Train skills with a macro in your own house, with Razor included. Just don't leave a character gathering unattended.

Our new player guide and the Mentors on Discord will have you on your feet in an evening.

About Moongate Legacy

Hail, traveller, and welcome. I'm Kharis, founder of Moongate Legacy.

Ultima Online has been part of my life since its earliest days, from the moment I first installed it off the original CD. Since then I've played across many shards: competing in PvP, building tamers to supply my friends and guildmates, and fighting alongside guilds that brought together players from all over the world. Some of those friendships went well beyond the game; I even picked up some Bulgarian from the friends I adventured with night after night.

My favourite chapter was Defiance Network, where I served as a game master. Running events for that community taught me what truly makes a shard great: not the scripts or the loot, but the people who log in every day and make the world feel alive.

Moongate Legacy is built on that belief. It brings back the eras we loved and the Defiance Network AOS content, with regular events, fair play and a staff that is here for the players. Whether you're a returning veteran or stepping through a moongate for the first time, there's a place for you here. I look forward to meeting you in Britannia.

Rules of the realm

Short, fair, and much the same as the rules veterans of Defiance Network AOS will remember.

  1. Be decent. No racial slurs, no harassment, no following a player around to spam insults. Staff may remove anyone who can't manage basic courtesy.
  2. One character in arena events. Capture the flag, tournaments, last man standing and the like: one client each.
  3. No boxing or trapping. A player you attack must always have one clear way out, including when you gate them somewhere to kill them.
  4. No exploiting bugs. Found one? Report it on Discord or the forums, and you'll be thanked.
  5. No advertising other servers or products.
  6. No cheat programs. No speed hacks or modified clients. Razor is allowed, and comes with our client.
  7. No account theft. No hacking or guessing other people's passwords.
  8. No unattended gathering. Collecting ore, wood, cotton, gold or any other resource while away from the keyboard is not allowed. Training a skill with a macro in your own house is fine.
  9. Respect the staff. Disagree politely; abuse of staff is not tolerated.
  10. At most five bulk order collector characters per player.
  11. No newbie characters to kill AFK players in town.
  12. No automated combat scripts in PvP. No auto-heal, auto-cure, potion-chug, auto-loot or auto-drop loops in a fight. It's about intent: a healing loop to train skill in your house is fine; one that keeps you alive while you sit at a gate, or heals your party in a fight, is not.
  13. Up to three accounts per household.
  14. Staff never ask for your password. Not in game, not on Discord, not anywhere.

An account here is a privilege, not a right. Playing on our shards or posting on our Discord and forums means you accept these rules. The full code of conduct has the details.
